How did the Fraser Valley Thunder Rally Begin?
The idea for a rally to raise money came about on a drive from Kamloops to Vancouver. I work for a large company and was thinking about my friend, a co-worder who is battling this terrible disease. I don't mind admitting I was brought to tears thinking of this man, a true gentleman in every sense of the word.
When I arrived home, I spoke with my wife who is always behind me. I called relatives and long time friends, and the idea blossomed within eight weeks into a rally called Kamfest which was held the weekend of June 14-15, 2008. We raised nearly $10,000 over this short period of time.
I am a small part of a dedicated, caring group of volunteers. Without their help and that of family, friends, corporate and community sponsors, this event would never have happened. It goes to show you that a small number of people can accomplish amazing things!
This year we're more determined and enthusiastic about making a difference. The rally in 2010 and for years to come is Fraser Valley Thunder Rally for the Cure.
As for my friend, he took early retirement to focus his energy to beat this disease. With his family's love and support, he will live to be a healthy old man. He will beat cancer because he is a fighter and doesn't know the meaning of the word "lose".
I am asking for your support. Come to the Vedder River Campground the weekend of July 24th and enjoy a weekend of family fun as you help put an end to cancer.
